DILBAR, THE NEW INDIAN STREET FOOD IN ASHEVILLE

👈🏼Blog Sponsored by Parsons law firm

Hello everyone!

I hope you are doing well, and ready for more awesome food here in Asheville. All right, I think we are all in for a treat.

Today, I’m going to start a series of vlogs on INDIAN CUISINE IN ASHEVILLE, because it is undeniable, there is a craze for Indian food in this City, and personally I LOVE THIS! I’m lucky I have visited India, and I’m fascinated by their food and culture.

Anyway, we now have 4 Indian restaurants in less than a mile radius in downtown Asheville, and NO OTHER INTERNATIONAL CUISINE can claim to have gotten our taste buds hooked, the way Indian cuisine has!

In fact, we have 6 Indian restaurants in Asheville, plus a restaurant that focuses on CURRY from around the world.

Ok, I went to the opening for Dilbar, and here is what I found, the concept is Indian STREET FOOD.

Place is very cool, conveniently located on what is possibly the most walked portion of downtown, right across from the Asheville Museum on #5 Biltmore Ave.

I don’t want to make this long, and for this reason I invite you to watch the video on YouTube, because seriously a video can tell you more than a million words.

Do I recommend Dilbar? Definitely!

What is something I recommend here?

The LAMB FRANKIE! And the coffee with vanilla ice cream.

Is Dilbar my favorite Indian  restaurant in Asheville? Well, let me just say that I want you to make up your own mind by giving all of the Indian restaurants a chance.

However, I’m not going to be shy to let you know that for sure I have a favorite and why.

Let me just get to it, when I make the video featuring them.

If you love any of the places featured in this series, please make a comment and let me know why you like them, and what  you recommend.

All right everyone, I know you all love Mexican food, but I also know for a fact authentic Mexican food can be really weird, seriously!

I mean, chilangos (Mexicans from Mexico City) love Guajolotas (a sandwich made with a tamal in the middle!) Yes, carbs on carbs yo!

And the name Guajolota, means female turkey, and the guajolotas are not made with turkey!

I tell you we Mexicans are weird, this is why I strongly believe most Mexican food you eat in the U.S. is very mild compared to how wild Mexican food can be.

Anyway, my friend John Atwater, owner of Taco Temple, loves Mexican culture and I in fact believe he was a chilango in another life, the guy is obsess with our cuisine.

So, when he told me he was making HOT DOGS TAMALES I thought he was kidding at first, I mean, I never had TAMALES DE SALCHICHA in México, and I was skeptical for sure. But then, I remembered, I’m MEXICAN, I said to my self I HAVE TO TRY THESE PINCHES TAMALES WEY, a huevoooooo!

Chloe moore, lydia george and shaniquia simuel

I know John is passionate about his Mexican cuisine, and therefore I headed to Taco Temple.  On my way I called my buddy Stu Helm, The Food Fan, and I asked him if he wanted to try them with me? The answer was FUCK YEAH!

All right y’all, here  is the video of my first WEIRD AMAZING FOODS IN ASHEVILLE.

TRY THESE TAMALES THEM, you are going to thank Taco Temple staff, for their creativity and for sharing with us unexpected weird foods ,that are DELICIOUS!

All right, if you know of a place making something weird and you LOVE IT, LET ME KNOW! And I will be happy to go check it out.

SALSA DANCING TAKES OVER ASHEVILLE

Hi! I’m Emily from Panama City, Florida home of the World’s Most Beautiful Beaches! These days though, I am satisfied with living in the Most Beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains! I grew up with a Grandmother who loved to dance and parents who played records often! So, I started dancing as a toddler and just never stopped. Up until moving to Asheville in 2014 I mostly danced freestyle, but I dabbled in Swing, Bellydance, and Ballroom.

Partner dancing was a challenge for me starting out since I was used to “doing my own thing”, but now I absolutely love the freedom of following. Kudos to all the Leads out there! I guess I started dancing Salsa about 8 years ago, but very sporadically at The Block Off Biltmore, Tressa’s, and MG Road. At the beginning of 2020, I jumped into a Rueda de Casino group led by Kenna Sommer and was inspired to learn more Latin dancing.

Since then I have been dancing Salsa regularly and have started to share what I’ve learned by teaching some basic lessons with Marco Jeronimo at One World West & Alley Cat in West Asheville. We have also started to choreograph for Quinceaneras and that has been a lot of fun! Soon, we will be teaching a Basic Salsa Series at the Haywood Quickstop behind Cafe’ Canna.

They are getting a dance floor outside on “the Porch” & we are looking forward to connecting with folks who want to learn more than the bare basics we teach at the local bars each week. We want to share more and people want to learn more, so I think Asheville is ready for it!

You can follow our new Facebook page SALSA AVL, www.salsaasheville.com, or you can send us an email with any questions for group or individual lessons at salsasheville@gmail.com

Dancing is a beautiful way to express and connect!

It truly is transformative, universal, and everyone can do it!

Salsa dancing has been a great joy in my life and I hope to see more and more people spinning & smiling on the dance floor!

Hello everyone, hola a todos, my name is Marco Jeronimo. I am from Mexico City, and I have lived in this beautiful town for 20 years. I love the mountains, the City’s vibe.

I remember dancing since I was 12, I started with Cumbia and other latin rhythms, it was 2003 when I learned how to dance Salsa and then I started taking more classes and eventually performing. And now, I’m a dance Instructor and teach basic salsa lessons with my dancing partner Emily.

What up my peeps!? Many people in town are curious and intrigued by Mayan culture in Asheville, but did you know there is a beautiful and delicious meal named COCHINITA PIBIL with Mayan roots and guess what?! I had it  a few, and sporadic times in Asheville, until I FOUND IT in the regular menu at LA RUMBA RESTAURANT LATINO YO!

Cochinita pibil tacos

Traditionally cooked for hours underground, and marinated for at least 24 hours, when you have this in the Peninsula of Yucatan it is an incredible experience.

Chef Mike from La Rumba is a very talented individual and he has adapted the recipe, because some ingredients are impossible to get in Asheville.

So, next time you are in the East side and you are hungry or you would like to try kick ass Mexican food this is the place.

Summer time y’all! And now that we are all about spending time outside, I want to share with you all great news about the folks making this city a vibrant and culinary scene.

You see Asheville keeps getting better, hotter, and greater when it comes to our local culinary options my friends.

Quite honestly, I’m glad to see the EAST SIDE is getting their share of awesome cuisine. Yes, there are a few places I’m going to share with you in the near future in this area of the city, but today I’m going to focus on La Rumba.

First thing I noticed is the folks from La Rumba are truly passionate about their food, and the ingredients they use. I noticed this right away when I saw they buy their meat from Hickory Nut Gap, hell yeah supporting local and making your meal as healthy af!

Now, please do yourself a favor and make a note of this… THEY HAVE THE BEST SHRIMP, I EVER HAD AT A LATINO RESTAURANT. THE BEST!

Yes, you are reading that right… their Camarones en Chipotle Media Crema are the bomb!

I can also tell you, they are making COCHINITA PIBIL. This is  MAYAN CUISINE and not many Mexican or Latino restaurants offer this kind of food y’all!
