Hello friends, foodies, and everyone living or visiting Asheville, and  looking for something rare, unique and delicious.

Today I got great news for you because BIRRIA RAMEN HAS LANDED IN ASHEVILLE! I know many of you love quesabirrias, but now you are going to fall in love with this MEXICAN/ ASIAN STEW.

ANDALE WAY RESTAURANT is the place you need to remember.  Located in the South Slope at 63 SOUTHSIDE AVENUE, in what I consider the heart of Beer City U.S.A.

A mexican making beer in asheville blog - asheville multicultural C

This side of town is colorful, artistic and now the home of Chef Salvador “Chava” Alvarado, the man who dared to introduce BIRRIA RAMEN to Asheville. Hey, if you know of another place with this dish let me know, but I can tell you that as a guy that eats out a lot, to me this is the very first place I have seen it in Asheville.

All right, as soon as I arrived at Andale Way, Chef Salvador invited me to his kitchen, and proceeded to fix me up with his version of one of the hottest trends  in the country at the moment.

A mexican making beer in asheville blog - asheville multicultural E

You see, this is no joke folks, birria ramen is so hot, it is featured in publications such as: The New York Times, Washington Post, and many others, because simply put, MEXICAN FOOD IS THE KING of all latin foods in the U.S. That’s right, you all, I like all latin foods, but  everyone loves Mexican cuisine and this is a fact.

What up everyone! Today, I want to tell you of a place I just found, and I find it very unique. In fact, this place makes me go back in time,a time when the biggest locally owned brewery started.

If you have lived in Asheville for a while, you may remember the days when Asheville only had three breweries in town. Two of them made beer out of a pizzeria’s basement and the other one was also a concept involving pizza! (It still is btw)

Anyway,  if you miss those days when the local beer industry started, you are going to love OUTSIDER BREWING.

A mexican making beer in asheville blog - asheville multicultural B
A mexican making beer in asheville blog - asheville multicultural C

WHAT MAKES THEM UNIQUE?

The place has a neighborhood feel, and as soon as you walk in, you are going to be in the middle of their studio, and what I mean by that, is that you are going to watch the folks from Outsider Brewing making beer right before your eyes.

Now, don’t expect to see huge beer containers, no, this place looks more like a lab.

A mexican making beer in asheville blog - asheville multicultural C

Talking with Julian the owner, it was easy for me to see he is passionate about beer. He told me, his approach to making beer is by brewing in a CRAFT STUDIO, and he is only making small batches, another thing that caught my attention is that Outsider Brewing has a Mexican immigrant making beer yo!

Tony is originally from Tijuana, México. He loves great beer and would love to open his own brewery in Tijuana. His passion is Hip Hop, and btw, he has produced a Cumbia for Pupusa Story, a video clip showcasing immigrants in Asheville.

I think it is great to find Tony in the local beer industry, and hopefully this could lead to more diversity in product, as well as a closer relationship with the rich and overlooked LATINO MARKET.

Bravo Outsider!

OUTSIDER BREWING is located at 939 RIVERSIDE DRIVE

Btw, Outsider is having one of their CRAFT STUDIO SESSIONS  ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16. Don’t miss great beer, PERUVIAN CUISINE, LATIN MUSIC, and community, while they make NC Keller.

Get ready y’all, because today is going to be a beautiful day for you. Yes, because if you like HAMBURGERS,  a meal I believe is the MOST LOVED FOOD by Americans.

Today is your lucky day!

DID YOU KNOW, SOME OF THE BEST HAMBURGERS  IN ASHEVILLE ARE MADE IN A FOOD TRUCK?

That is right y’all, Mexican bad ass Chef Macario Jimenez is not messing around. You see, Macario had to work hard to make his dream come through, but not even a pandemic was going to stop him, yes I said this before and I say it again, and lucky us, his dream is to make us happy, happy!

The work of another bad ass Chef from PUEBLA in ASHEVILLE - next blog asheville multicultural
Sabora food truck with luis carlos serapio from asheville multicultural

You see, Sabora Food Truck is his mother ship, and out of this moving kitchen full of creativity, you are going to discover that talent has no boundaries.

The hamburgers and sandwiches this guy is making are EPIC and this is NO BULL.

I love to eat, hell, we all love to eat, and I also appreciate people who make authentic food, but what I admire most is the ability of some Chefs to elevate a traditional meal to an art form, and Macario is doing that without a doubt!

What do I recommend?

  1. You have to TRY HIS CUBAN SANDWICH, I love the choice of meats, and the locally sourced mustard as well as the right amount of bread. Yes folks, I don’t like to have a sandwich that fills you up with so much bread and the way Sabora Food Truck makes this Cuban is PERFECT!

GET IT with regular fries.

GHOST MAKER BURGER

Spicy by the way of using ghost peppers in a way only a master Chef can. I mean, the burger is spicy, but never hot. It is just enough heat to make you enjoy the ride, and to make you aware Macario is Mexican and as such he knows how to work with fire, YES SIR!

GET IT with sweet potato fries, and chipotle mayo!

3. FANCY BURGER

This one is like great sex.  Tasty, delicious, steamy and you are going to want more as soon as you are done. Ok, maybe that’s just me. But seriously, this hamburger is made with mushrooms marinated in red wine, and the wine element ELEVATES this burger big time!

GET IT with a salad, because the shrooms are meaty and they go on top of a juicy beef patty and you need to eat greens yo!

I want to share with you that not long ago, I went to the USA Today Food & Wine Festival, and  Tin Can Pizzeria was KICKING ASS, NO BULL, kicking ass, because there is no other way for me to say it.

When I realized their line was the longest one  in this event, I have to say THEY KICKED ASS, no one else came close to them.

I have a video to prove it!

During the two hours I spent at the event, this truck was rocking the house, serving pizza left and right.

I strongly recommend you track them down, I know they are going to be at New Belgium Brewery Asheville every Wednesday UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR, and you can visit their website if you need to inquire about their availability to cover your event.

Hell yeah, Cuban food finally hits Asheville! If you love to eat out and you have paid attention to this blog, you know I started talking about Guajiro food truck back in June. Yep,they were expecting to be open by August, but hey shit happens and by the time you are reading this THEY ARE FINALLY OPEN!

Guajiro Cuban Comfort Food  is probably the most awaited food truck in Asheville in years. You see, ever since I started posting about them, people wanted to know more, they shared my posts, they sent me messages and they wanted to know everything about the opening date and  menu.

Well, I don’t blame them, because even though we are recognized as a culinary destination  Asheville was in desperate need of CUBAN CUISINE.

Where is it?

Located in the River Arts District,  sandwiched between downtown and hipster West Asheville.

Who are they?

The people behind this concept are 100 % Latinos. A proud Cuban American family that I had the pleasure to meet at their home, during a menu tasting party for friends and family. Chris Barroso is the owner of the truck, the recipes come from his nana doña Rosa Eneida Montenegro and the name Guajiro is in honor of his grandfather, a Cuban Guajiro.

Chef Joel Morales is also a member of their family.

I counted 5 different kinds of Cuban Sandwiches

  • 4 appetizers
  • 2 soups
  • 2 entrees
  • 6 breakfast options and 5 sides.
  • 5 Cuban Coffees

What do I recommend?

I had so much food when they had me over at their house, and they treated me like family, that I would love for you to go and try everything they are making in this truck. Then, please share on my social media what you like best.

I know you are going to love this place, but because they just opened,  I want to try it a few more times before I can honestly suggest any of their dishes.

Hi! I’m Emily from Panama City, Florida home of the World’s Most Beautiful Beaches! These days though, I am satisfied with living in the Most Beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains! I grew up with a Grandmother who loved to dance and parents who played records often! So, I started dancing as a toddler and just never stopped. Up until moving to Asheville in 2014 I mostly danced freestyle, but I dabbled in Swing, Bellydance, and Ballroom.

Partner dancing was a challenge for me starting out since I was used to “doing my own thing”, but now I absolutely love the freedom of following. Kudos to all the Leads out there! I guess I started dancing Salsa about 8 years ago, but very sporadically at The Block Off Biltmore, Tressa’s, and MG Road. At the beginning of 2020, I jumped into a Rueda de Casino group led by Kenna Sommer and was inspired to learn more Latin dancing.

Since then I have been dancing Salsa regularly and have started to share what I’ve learned by teaching some basic lessons with Marco Jeronimo at One World West & Alley Cat in West Asheville. We have also started to choreograph for Quinceaneras and that has been a lot of fun! Soon, we will be teaching a Basic Salsa Series at the Haywood Quickstop behind Cafe’ Canna.

They are getting a dance floor outside on “the Porch” & we are looking forward to connecting with folks who want to learn more than the bare basics we teach at the local bars each week. We want to share more and people want to learn more, so I think Asheville is ready for it!

Dancing is a beautiful way to express and connect!

It truly is transformative, universal, and everyone can do it!

Salsa dancing has been a great joy in my life and I hope to see more and more people spinning & smiling on the dance floor!

Hello everyone, hola a todos, my name is Marco Jeronimo. I am from Mexico City, and I have lived in this beautiful town for 20 years. I love the mountains, the City’s vibe.
