All right y’all, this aint easy, I was lucky to  survive Covid and shit literally. You all know what we have gone through in the last two years that honestly, to have enjoyed so much great food was really a plus.

And now to  pick what I think is the best is hard af!

I’m going to give it a shot though, And hopefully I don’t piss off some of you. But hey, my criteria to call it the best is definitely based on taste and my very personal experience.

Some of these dishes may be fancy and upscale, but you are also going to see real meals made to satisfy anyone, and perhaps not as pretty as something you will find in a popular, cool and hip joint.

Tortilleria Molina - Asheville's hot tamales

My first one is TAMALERIA MOLINA or wherever  they want to call them selves, Tortilleria Molina or something.

All right, I’m not angry at them I just LOVE THEIR FREAKING TAMALES.

Why do I think they are the best? Because THEY FUCKING ARE YO!

Go try them and if you don’t like them let me know,  you can like whomever tamales you want to, I just so happen to believe these tamales are better than my mom’s, my grand ma, and every where else where I ate tamales in Asheville. This is the only place I can eat more than 4 tamales. No, I’m not proud of this, but they should be. Yes TORTILLERIA MOLINA, if you were to compete for best tamales in Asheville you have my vote.  YOU ARE THE BEST🫔🫔🫔🫔🫔

Ok, from a very unknown and brand new place let me take you to a hipster joint….yes, it is, and it’s fine. TABLE is one of those cool restaurants in Asheville that are known to be cool.

Not a place that I go very often. Why? Mainly because the staff hasn’t been the friendliest and yet I have no complains about the food, quite the opposite, the FOOD IS GREAT.

Shit, at one point the friend that I had taken with me asked me, do you really want to eat here?. He said let’s just go man. The service was unfriendly to say the least, I said I’m hungry man. It was a Friday night and I knew anywhere else it would take us a while to get a table.

Let’s get back to the food. What did I have? I had the RIGHT THERE BURGER.

Well, look at this baby, seriously LOOK AT IT! I now believe is  the MOST DELICIOUS hamburger I have eaten  at a restaurant in Asheville in a while. Hell yeah,  it was cheese and it almost felt like it melt in your mouth.

Would I go back? Mmmm, maybe, everyone deserves a second chance. I know, I know, customers are dicks some times… but trust me on this one, our waiter and bar tender was not having a good day, and yet, I say it one more time the HAMBURGER WAS AWESOME. So you go and you decide. 🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔

Right away, I want you to know I love this place and I’m friends with many of the latinos that are part of the Mamacita’s team. They know me by name and I also know them and some of their kids.

But how, and why we became friends?

Because I kept going back to HAVE THE BIGGEST, YUMMIEST, BURRITOS IN TOWN. They are consistent, fresh, SUPER CLEAN, and they make them right before your eyes 👊🏾

They also support local businesses in the area, from buying their produce from a Mexican lady named Vanessa at the local farmers market Vanessa’s Produce, to local non GMO meats from Hickory Nut Gap. Also, if you order something made with corn here, I want you to know  THEY ARE IMPORTING ORGANIC MEXICAN CORN to make you the best quality TACOS, SOPES, PUPUSAS or anything you ask made of corn. Yes the taste and quality of ORGANIC makes these guys the best!      ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wishing you a beautiful merry Christmas John, doña Paty, doña Mary, Carito, Francisco, Jorgito,Lisa and the rest of the gang.

Thank you for the awesome food and the friendship ❤️❤️❤️

If this isn’t clear enough, I want you to know this event took the participants on a culinary tour of latin America. This event highlighted some of the best culinary traditions of Mexico and all the way to Argentina. Look at what they had🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

And look at the latinos in it!

Chef Patty Saenz, Hector Revilla, and Santiago Vargas👊🏾

Pernil de Cerdo con Gandules (1)

Yo! This was so awesome that I remember when I first published photos and a video of it, many of you went nuts asking me about it.

Well, I have good news and bad news on this one, first the good news.

Good place to have great food in a very lay back atmosphere, if you have backpack through Central America you will feel like you are in Guatemala or a place like that. The pernil de puerco Or Ecuadorian shredded pork (they are from Ecuador) was TASTY TENDER PULLED PORK, with beans (gandules) and  Ecuadorian rice, plus fried plantains…. Delicious af!

The guy cooking in this place is Esteban Salinas, and without a doubt he is a very skillful Chef, I want to eat more food made by this guy.

Now the bad news…. Not a set menu of latin foods, I mean they do have a deli menu, but their latin dishes have no menu. I mean, I heard a few of you telling me food you see on their social media don’t match what you get when you go 🤷🏾‍♂️

You can call ahead and ask what they have for the day, or follow them on Facebook, and let them know. They are also the oldest bodega in Asheville definitely worth a visit.

The brooklyn of Asheville, Haywood Rd in the West Side is the home of one of my FAVORITE MEXICAN SANDWICHES and this is very exciting yall! You see, Mexican cuisine is so diverse and this Taco Truck has TACOS ARABES and CEMITAS ARABES!!! What is that?

Well, is LEBANESE MEXICAN🔥🔥🔥 Yes guys, you go and try the CEMITA ARABE that is all I have to say. It is a superb sandwich like no other and it’s originally from Puebla, México the home of a large Lebanese immigrant community.

Another that is hard to include on my MUST HAVE MEALS do to the lack of Social Media or web presence.

They are parked almost at the corner of Haywood Rd and Louisiana Ave in West Asheville and they are only OPEN FRIDAY- SATURDAY🤷🏾‍♂️

Ok, this guy knows what he wants and he wants you to fall in love with his food. That’s right, Macario Jiménez  is a TIGRE. A tiger is what we say where I come from…. He doesn’t have stripes, but he should get them tattooed on. This guy is going to show you that hamburgers from a food truck can be SO FUCKING GOOD when you put your passion and desire to make it behind what you do.

This guy is already part of my MUST HAVE FOODS IN ASHEVILLE.

And the Ghost Maker is bombastic! The Ghost pepper cheese and the chipotle mayo are unbelievable. Good times, good times.

* For my MUST HAVES  I picked the Cuban Sandwich, but it was hard to pick between the two. 😉

A community is merely a reflection of the people in it. One that uplifts humanity in every decision attracts diversity. One that works harder at it as time goes on celebrates diversity. You can feel, taste, smell, see and hear the difference in these places. That is the type of community that I want to live in, work in and fight for.
