What up my peeps! Today, I got you a video showing you what went down during Chow chow’s diaspora and entrepreneurs of color in asheville. Ready? The days were beautiful and not too hot thank god!

The food was a display of international creativity, I ate so much ,while I met some newcomers such as: EBONY WINE & SPIRITS an African American owned company and also the creative masterminds behind SALUD CERVECERIA a LATINA owned brewery!

I also saw my good friends Chef May and her husband Travis, owners of Thai Pearl Restaurant. My Comadre Patty Saenz, owner of Pupuseria Patty and my good friend John Atwater, owner of Mamacita’s Taqueria and Taco Temple.

Chow Chow, I believe you are doing something exciting, progressive and AWESOME.

I hope to see this culinary event grow bigger and to see more entrepreneurs of color next year. I know Asheville is ready for this and Shay Brown Events has been key in making our culinary scene more inclusive. Bravo Shay, you and your team have done a great job!

These two events are part of Chow Chow An Asheville Culinary Event Series happening on the weekends of June 23-26, August 4-7, and September 8-11

Zella’s Deli is a great option for those visiting, or living in the South, and crave NY style cuisine. Asheville is known as a place with great restaurants, and for the longest time has needed a deli.

Well, not long ago Zella’s Deli opened in downtown Asheville. This place has a variety of NY classics, today I had the joy of trying 3 different sandwiches.

I had the Meatball sub, and it is AWESOME!

Bread was soft, the meatballs were delicious and what I think made it great was the SAUCE! I ate it in record time.

I also had the Italian and the Reuben,

My second favorite has to be the Reuben mmmm, BOMBASTIC.

For this one they have two options?! How? Why? Well, if you have a big appetite and you want to feel like you are in the big city, you can have a NY STYLE UPGRADE ! This means you can have it with an extra 1/2 LB MEAT 🤩

The Italian was also tasty and the one that took me the longest to eat because its cold, and by now I had already eaten two sandwiches, that is going to slow down anyone 😉

I have visited Stoney Knob Cafe countless times during the last 20 years, and I never had a meal I didn’t enjoy.

This place is AWESOME, and is NOT A TOURIST TRAP, the ambiance is cool, sophisticated and the food is world class. Yes, this is the reason why after so many years and even while the pandemic locals made sure it stayed in business. Yes, Asheville locals love it, those visiting who are lucky enough to discover this gem are in for a great experience.

Away from the madness of downtown Asheville, and yet 15 minutes away from it, Stoney Knob Cafe stands strong because the food and service are extraordinary.

As soon as you arrive at the parking lot, you are going to notice the eclectic ambiance right away.

What?! How could that be, if you are in the parking lot? Well, pay attention, because there are a few clues on the building that you can take as a sign of what is about to come the second you step in.

The sign reads Stoney Knob Cafe, “Cuisine from near and far” and yes it is.

The menu is world class, like a James Bond movie.

All right, I can keep going about the ambiance, but honestly the decor is just a dramatic touch for awesome food.

This time I had a delicious grilled octopus for appetizer, LOVED IT. A BOMBASTIC OYSTER CAESAR SALAD that I’m including on my website as a MUST HAVE MEAL in Asheville NO KIDDING. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Short ribs with scallops YES! The meat was super tender, and the scallops mmmmm. I also had the LAMB TACOS, and holy mother of god!! I love tacos, I’m Mexican, and this Greek BADASS CHEF showed me his take on tacos is da bomb, the tortillas super tasty and very different flavor from traditional Mexican tortilllas and the grilled feta cheese on top the perfect touch, BRAVO MAESTRO 👏 👏 👏 .

While I was eating these tacos, a lady came and told me, I have to mention their Jamaican Ravioli for lunch and their mushroom ravioli for dinner, and yes I’m going to come back to try those for sure.

Folks, this place has been around for almost 60 years, because DA PEOPLE LOVE IT.

As someone with Afro Latino roots creating content highlighting diversity in Asheville, I was excited to meet Rachel, and to learn about the work she is doing in our community.
