Tortilleria Molina - Asheville's hot tamales

👈🏼Blog Sponsored by Mamacitas Taqueria

Dear Asheville foodies, I don’t always eat tamales, but when I do…all right, I think you see where I’m going with this. Seriously my people, this place is so fucking good I believe they are going to have to re think their business model fast.

The name is Tortilleria Molina (aka Tamaleria) literally the name translates as tortilla factory and tamal factory.

Think about it, the way you think of a pizzeria. The place  hasn’t been open for long, maybe two or three months tops, and it’s making HUGE WAVES in a very unbelievable way. It took me three trips to this place, to be able to get some damn tamales because every other time I stopped by, they were SOLD OUT!

I mean, what’s up with that?! Why not make shit lots of tamales at once? I’m sure there is a reason….. I don’t know the reason… and it doesn’t make sense to me. Maybe is a great marketing strategy? 🤔 Hell, if it is, is working, after all I went back 3 times to get me some tamales yo!

Tortilleria Molina - Asheville's hot tamales

Here is where you will find all the awesome multicultural food scene in Asheville

Why did I keep going back?

I stumbled upon these tamales by pure destiny, I mean, I used to eat tamales many moons ago, when I was a kid in México, I loved tamales back then….but after many years living in the States, I would eat tamales, and it was nothing really special for me, until I was lucky to work for an organization working with immigrants a couple months ago, and they provided lunch. Always thankful for the lunch provided, and for the work these compas do in our community, when I saw it was tamalesI wasn’t excited, but I was hungry, then I took a bite and HOLY SHIT, it was delicious, I thought, damn I’m hungry. I took the second bite, and then I could not stop. There is something very different and special about these tamales. I ate 4 tamales yo! 4 Tamales is a lot for me, I have not eating that many tamales since I was a teenager in México!🇲🇽

Located in what I believe is the new INTERNATIONAL food corridor in town, WEST ASHEVILLE. Tortilleria Molina/ Tamaleria is seriously KILLING IT!

Without a doubt the MOST DELICIOUS TAMALES I have eaten in my 31 years living in the U.S.A, and right away they are going into my list of MOST HAVE MEALS IN ASHEVILLE. There is a problem though, thIs place has no website or any Social Media presence 🤷🏾‍♂️ IT’S 2021 YO!

Ok, that’s fine, I’m still going to tell you how to get to them. Located at 809 Patton Avenue in the same complex where you find Gypsy Queen Restaurant, and Radha Indian Groceries, right across the street from the Starbucks on Patton. With all this said, I’m sure you are going to find them now.

Back to the tamales, I have had 3 kinds:

Rajas con queso en salsa verde

….mmmm delicious cheese with jalapeño slices, yes a little bit spicy, I mean I just told you it has sliced jalapeños in it, however it was not very hot for me, but I do like it hot. These rajas con queso or jalapeño sliced with onions and cheese is AMAZINGLY GOOD. The masa flavor is going to make you suck your fingers, I’m not sure if it’s the salsas, or the lard they are putting in it, but honestly just thinking about these tamales makes me hungry any time of the day.

Tamal de pollo (verde) or chicken tamal in salsa verde (green sauce)

HEAVENLY ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️  not as moist as the rajas con quesothe chicken made for a less rich tamal, and this may be dangerous as you will be able to eat more, SERIOUSLY BE CAREFUL because these tamales aren’t huge and it will be easy for you to eat them like there is no tomorrow.

Tamal de puerco in salsa roja (red sauce)

THE BEST, the best I’m telling you! Why? Well, it is undeniable the fatty pork that makes it BOMBASTIC 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I love pork and the recipe the folks of Tortilleria Molina have is addictive, in the few minutes I was there buying my tamales folks were buying 10, 15, 20 to go. I only got 7 to go.A couple hours later I thought, that was dumb, I should have gotten at least 10.

I can tell you this place will be very successful and I’m even going to predict that it won’t be long before we see many Tortillerias Molina around, in fact the name should be Tamaleria Molina, because people are already talking highly about these tamales…. Imagine this, I went to a pop up dinner this week where the food was great and highly sophisticated, and a couple attending this event and I were raving about the tamales from Tamaleria Molina 👊🏾 Tortilleria Molina.

Testimonials

A community is merely a reflection of the people in it. One that uplifts humanity in every decision attracts diversity. One that works harder at it as time goes on celebrates diversity. You can feel, taste, smell, see and hear the difference in these places. That is the type of community that I want to live in, work in and fight for.
